Set in Khartoum during the final years before Sudan's division, Mohamed Kordofani's debut follows a former Northern Sudanese singer who hires the widow of a Southern Sudanese man she accidentally caused to die, becoming the first Sudanese film ever selected at Cannes and winning the Prix de la Liberte in Un Certain Regard 2023.

Fun fact: Kordofani trained as an aeronautical engineer before leaving the field to found his own production studio and make the film.
