Adapted from Sembene's own novella Vehi-Ciosane, this short portrays a Senegalese village in moral decline after its chief impregnates his own daughter, with a returning soldier and the village griot bearing witness to the community's unraveling.
Fun fact: It was one of Sembene's first films after Borom Sarret, made while he was proving himself equally urgent as a novelist and a filmmaker.
