The Four Feathers

1939 — Zoltan Korda — United Kingdom

feature · adventure, war · pre-history

Shot largely on location in Sudan in early Technicolor, this British production follows a young officer accused of cowardice who seeks to redeem himself during the 1898 Battle of Omdurman against the forces of the Khalifa.

Fun fact: Cinematographers Georges Perinal and Osmond Borradaile received an Academy Award nomination for their work capturing the Sudanese locations.

Notes: Non-African-directed British colonial-era production set during the Mahdist War in Sudan, included per methodology as clearly labeled pre-history era work.
